A warm welcome on the local island of Rasdhoo!
And welcome to DIVE SHACK - the "German" dive school in Rasdhoo!
Dive Shack is a small, family-run dive school, located on the local island of Rasdhoo, in the north-east region of Ari-Atoll. The dive school is managed by Achim and his Maldivian wife Shifa.
Achim is an experienced German PADI Scuba Instructor, who has been staying in Maldives for many years. He was working on several resort islands and living on many different local islands.
The Maldivian Republic is famous for luxury and wickedly expensive resort islands. Only within the past few years, it is for tourists allowed, to spend their holidays on local islands. In the present, there are twelve guest houses in Rasdhoo with more than 100 rooms in total. On the beach in the south of the island, which is smugly called "Bikini Beach", the female tourists are officially allowed to enjoy a sunbath, while wearing a bikini. At all other locations on the island it is not allowed.
In Rasdhoo all the guests are highly respected and all the locals know about the importance of tourism on the island. In addition to tourism, the locals make their living with fishing (especially yellow-fin tuna). The Maldives are a strictly islamic country, and the people here have a great sense of hospitality, and particularly the younger generation is very open to the "western" way of life. In the past 12 months, new guest houses, restaurants and dive schools were built on nearly every local island in Maldives, at least within the central part of the country.
However, two islands are taking a leading role in the local island tourism sector, which are Maafushi in South-Malé Atoll and of course Rasdhoo, home base of Shifa and Achim! They decided to settle there for many reasons, but especially because of "Madivaru Corner", one of the best dive sites in whole Maldives!
If you like to explore the best dive sites in Rasdhoo Atoll, you would be most welcome to join Dive Shack for some memorable dives! You would be in good hands with them, especially if you like to learn more about the local way of life! Diving in Maldives is generally not cheap, but it is worth every cent, especially if you are diving in small groups. And for that, they would give you a guarantee!
Alcohol is strictly prohibited on all local islands in Maldives! Also for tourists!
